This Week

We've missed out on three (3) meets this season, so many have yet to swim more than just a few different events.

A few have yet to qualify for the Corpus Christ meet in their event(s).

Since the weather should be warming up on Wednesday, we'll pull off all the tarps and incorporate a few time trial swims into the practice.

Athletes should plan to swim three (3) or four (4) races.

We'll take short (5 minutes?) breaks between races for warm-up/-down.

Swimmers will help time (& count for) one another.

If it looks like we'll have weather issues Wednesday, we'll adjust and either move up to Tuesday, or back to Thursday or Friday.

Manvel Fan Info

If you're traveling to watch our swimmers Saturday, the school address is:

19601 Hwy 6, Manvel, TX 77578

As you drive east on Highway 6, the school will be on your left.  Turn left at the light and you'll see the large parking lot on your left.  The pool is toward the northeast corner of the campus.

Latest timeline has meet concluding later than I'd guessed (1:55 is current estimate).  As always, timeline subject to change.

Our host has asked that each school provide two (2) timers for the meet.  So we can hold up our end of the deal, we'd like parents and siblings to set up a rotation to cover our lane.

Thanks in advance for helping out!

Breaststroke Drills

Here are a couple of drills from a couple of guys you may have heard of:

Hosing Gear/Sweeping the Sheds

Maybe it's time to adopt a new post-practice procedure for hosing off our gear.

We've been assigning junior high and/or freshmen to handle the task.

Let's start sending a different message:

Instead of looking at it as who "has to" do the job, maybe it's time to learn something from New Zealand's All Blacks rugby program and decide who "gets to" do the job.

Before leaving the dressing room at the end of the game, some of the most famous names in world rugby – including Richie McCaw, Dan Carter and Mils Muliana – stop and tidy up after themselves. They literally and figuratively 'sweep the sheds'.

Former All Black Andrew Mehrtens describes it as an example of personal humility, a cardinal All Blacks value.

Though it might seem strange for a team of imperious dominance, humility is core to their culture. The All Blacks believe that it's impossible to achieve stratospheric success without having your feet planted firmly on the ground.
