Valiant Pool

Today, various stakeholders met to discuss issues surrounding the Valiant Pool.

The two (2) biggest short-term problems with the pool are a) the stability of the pump room, & b) the cost of operating the pool.

The City of Bay City will discuss proposals at their upcoming regular city council meeting on Tuesday, July 28.

Between now and then, all parties agreed that gathering more information would be necessary before a decision could be made about the status of the pool.

The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. on the 28th.

Awards

There is still no word on our banquet video, so I'll post a portion of the transcript with our special award recipients for the 2019-20 season:

We finished 4th in the district meet and managed a top-twenty finish at the region meet.  Seven (7) of our nine (9) girls were first-year swimmers.  I’m very proud of the way these young ladies performed this season.  They took care of business in the classroom and at the pool.

Our Outstanding Girl Swimmer this year was not only outstanding in her individual events, but she was also a key to our relay success at district and region.  Congratulations to our 2020 Outstanding Girl Swimmer, Glory Vargas.

The guys were 3rd in the district and 17th in the region.  Eight (8) of our ten (10) guys were freshmen and sophomores.  They pushed each other in workouts and it really help make our relays strong for the championship season.

Our Outstanding Boy Swimmer was a regional finalist in his two (2) individual events and on two (2) of our relays.  He’s a distance specialist who puts in the most mileage on the team.  Congratulations to our 2020 Outstanding Boy Swimmer, Matthew Brooks.

Mrs. Button did a fine job with our divers this year and was recognized as the District Diving Coach of the Year for the second straight year.  Our Outstanding Diver was the District 27-5A champion and finished 9th at the region meet.  Our 2020 Outstanding Diver is Ashton Wallace.

Our final honoree is a swimmer who is versatile enough to help us in any event at any distance.  I know, because in his three (3) years on the team, he’s competed in just about every high school swimming event.  We didn’t have any seniors on our boys’ team this year, but, as a junior, he provided some much-needed “senior” leadership.  He’s a great teammate and is extremely coachable.  Our 2020 Laurie Bell Fighting Heart Award recipient is Jordan “Rowdy” Wright.
