News

Columbia dual and JH time trial results are posted on pool office window.

Great job by those who trained yesterday & today!  We got stronger and faster!!

Updated attendance figures will be posted Monday.

Enjoy a few days off, but try to get in some dry-land work and some running.

Tentative plan is to have our annual "Splash-n-Dash" on Wednesday of next week.  HS & JH athletes will need shorts, shirts, shoes, suits, & goggles for that one.

First, some nutritional info here

Many young swimmers are caught in a desire to eat healthy, eat “clean,” and adopt a plant-based diet, worthy goals to be sure. However, ensuring that enough calories are eaten throughout the day can be challenging when school, training, social activities, and family life get in the way of planning meals and snacks. Without enough calories from food, physiological functions can go awry including metabolic rate, menstrual function, bone health, immune function, protein synthesis, and psychological health.

Next, the superstars in USA Swimming were honored at the Golden Goggles Awards.  Full article here

Olympic champions and world-record holders Simone Manuel (Sugar Land, Texas/Alto Swim Club) and Caeleb Dressel (Green Cove Springs, Fla./Bolles School Sharks/Florida), who led Team USA with standout performances at last summer’s FINA World Championships, took home Athlete of the Year honors on Sunday at USA Swimming’s annual Golden Goggle Awards.

Estraca Update

Stephen Estraca (BCHS/2019) helped Austin College defeat University of the Ozarks last Saturday.  Estraca contributed 15 points to the cause, with a 1st in 3m diving, a 2nd in 1m diving, and his 4th place finish in the 50 freestyle.  Link to results is here.  Link to article here

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - The Austin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams each picked up road victories at the University of the Ozarks on Saturday, with the women winning 122-64 and the men edging the Eagles 112-107.
The 'Roos got a number of first place finishes for both the men and the women in the victories, including sweeping the 200 medley relay events to open the meet. The women's team of Chloe Hunt, Jade Kemp, Zuni Rubio, and Jennifer Liang took first with a time of 2:04.16 and the men's team of Christopher Miles, Charles Smith, Zach Magers, and Sean Cookson came in with a time of 1:50.45 to earn the victory. Liberty Chanin followed those races up with a win in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:42.27, finishing more than 30 seconds ahead of the second place performer.
Becca Tobias picked up victories in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley, and Hunt added wins in the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle. Miles took first in the 100 backstroke on the men's side, and Cookson earned a win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:17.53, nearly 18 seconds faster than second place. The 'Roos won both the men's and women's 100 breaststroke, with Tobias notching another win with a time of 1:19.29 while Ethan Nguyen picked up the win for the men with a time of 59.47. Colton Baker gave the 'Roos first place points in the 1-meter diving event, and Stephen Estraca was first in the 3-meter dive.

I will be officiating the meet, so other duties will fall on Mrs. Button, our swimmers, captains, and parents.

Captains will let athletes know what to bring for a small concession stand.  We still have some drinks left from the Blue/Gold meet.  We'll also need a cooler with ice from training room.

Swimmers will help with the meet set-up (tarps, watches, pencils, clip boards, chairs, etc.).

Mrs. Button will run diving and help with the results & team scores.

Captains will help make certain athletes get to their events and warm up/down.

Parents will need to help with concession, timing, and lighting.

Right now, our locker rooms and breezeways are a mess.  We cannot count on lifeguards to lift a finger.  Over the next few days, we will do what we can to make the facility somewhat presentable.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help in hosting this meet.
